Underwater Alligator Encounters
This absolutely amazing experience will put you in the water, unrestrained, to swim with alligators in a 30,000 gallon aquatic habitat. It is thrilling swim with these creatures, yet somehow becomes a surreal and serene experience when you see how calm and effortlessly they glide through the water.
What is the Cost of the Encounter?
$250.00 per participant
What is the Minimum Age for Participants?
Participants must be at least 18 years old.
Are the Encounters Safe?
Safety is always the priority! For this reason, the experience is hands-off and is designed for serious underwater photographers and wildlife enthusiasts only. This is not a gator wrestling class. You must be comfortable being very close to the animal to observe and record it’s behavior.
Additionally, no participant will be allowed to touch the animals for safety and legal reasons.
A full safety briefing will be given before entering the water and also provide information on alligator natural history and behavior.
Where, and When Will the Activity Be Held?
This experience will be held at the Everglades Outpost.
Everglades Outpost – 35601 SW 192nd Ave, Homestead, FL 33034
Who Will Be in the Water With Me?
You will be in the water with animal specialist, Chris Gillette. For the safety of you and the animals, only one guest will be allowed with Chris in the water at a time. This makes the experience very personal and safe. Chris is a professional crocodilian handler with over a decade of experience with both captive and wild alligators and crocodiles.
Can I Bring a Camera?
You’re welcome to bring cameras/gopros to document your experience; just make sure they’re waterproof! Strobes and video lights are also acceptable to use.
If you do not have a camera of your own and would like Chris to take professional underwater photos of you with Casper, this can also be arranged. Chris shoots with Canon 80D, 10-22mm wide angle lens, Aquatica housing and Inon strobes.
Do I Need to Bring Anything Else?
While recommended for warmth, a wetsuit is not required and many guests find their bathing suits to be sufficient. Other items you will need are a mask, snorkel, and weight belt. You can either bring your own, or use the snorkel gear we have available free of charge. We do NOT have wetsuits available. Also we recomend bringing a towel, snack and drink.
How Many Alligators Will I be With?
There are several alligators in the pond but we will be focusing on the largest individual, named Casper. Chris has worked with Casper for ten years and understands his behavior very well. Casper is between 9-10 feet in length, and roughly 250 pounds!
