Palm Beach County, Florida, offers some of the most exciting diving and snorkeling in the United States. Here, the warm, clear waters of the Gulf Stream flow remarkably close to shore, carrying nutrients that support an extraordinary abundance and diversity of marine life.
As Florida’s shallow coastal shelf narrows toward Palm Beach County, marine life becomes concentrated along our reefs, ledges and shipwrecks. Our location also brings tropical and temperate species together, creating an underwater ecosystem unlike almost anywhere else in the country.
Divers may encounter everything from tiny seahorses, colorful reef fish and spotted eagle rays to sea turtles, sharks and enormous Goliath groupers. Five of the world’s seven sea turtle species have been recorded in this region: loggerhead, green, leatherback, hawksbill and Kemp’s ridley turtles. Every trip offers a new opportunity—and you never know what might swim past.
Shark Diving in Jupiter, Florida
Jupiter is internationally known for its shark encounters. The deep water and powerful Gulf Stream bring sharks close to our coastline, giving qualified divers the chance to see these magnificent animals in their natural environment.
Depending on the season and conditions, encounters may include lemon sharks, bull sharks, sandbar sharks, reef sharks, tiger sharks and, occasionally, hammerheads and other visiting species. Seeing a shark glide effortlessly through clear blue water is an unforgettable experience—and one that often replaces fear with appreciation and respect.
Our shark dives are conducted with a strong emphasis on safety, responsible wildlife interaction and respect for the animals. Because wildlife is never guaranteed, every trip is a genuine encounter with the natural ocean rather than a staged experience.
Reefs, Wrecks, Turtles and Goliath Groupers
Palm Beach County’s reefs and shipwrecks are alive with marine life. During late summer, particularly in August and early September, divers may witness the spectacular Goliath grouper spawning aggregation, when these massive fish gather around local wrecks.
For macro-life enthusiasts, the Blue Heron Bridge is famous for its remarkable variety of small and unusual creatures. Seahorses, frogfish, octopuses, rays, juvenile fish and other hidden treasures make it one of the world’s most celebrated shore-diving destinations.
Relax and Drift with the Gulf Stream
The Gulf Stream makes this region ideal for drift diving—sometimes called “lazy diver’s diving.” Instead of swimming back to an anchored boat, you can relax, move with the current and explore a much larger area. Our captain tracks the group’s dive flag from the surface and positions the boat for pickup at the end of the dive.
Local dive sites typically range from approximately 45 to 100 feet, offering options for different experience levels. Nitrox is highly recommended for many dives and is available aboard the Shear Water.
