Dive with Whales and Sharks, Dolphins, Sea Turtles and more in the Sea of Cortez which is known worldwide as a place of huge biodiversity and great abundance of all types of marine life. With the beautiful desert ecosystem running all the way to the water’s edge, this unique area earned a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation in 2005.

When Jacque Cousteau explored it, he called it, “the aquarium of the planet”. I have been fortunate enough to explore and research many of the best known areas all over this magical place. There are so many very unique and wonderful areas, however, without question, my favorite area is the offshore waters of the quaint town of La Ventana. From my years of research, this area seems to be the most consistent place for a multitude of large pelagic whales, dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles, mantas, and mobula rays. This is where we will be spending a lot of time at sea on the adventure.

It is impossible to list all of the species that we may see, the most common are as follows:

Whales –

• Blue
• Fin
• Sperm
• Humpback
• Bryde’s
• Pilot
• Grey
• Sei
• Several species of beaked whales

Twenty-one species of dolphins have been seen there as well, including –

• Orca
• Bottlenose
• Spinner
• Rough toothed
• Risso’s
• Common

Sometimes these dolphins even appear in great numbers, which are called super pods.

Five of the seven species of turtles can be found there –

• Olive Ridley
• Green
• Leatherback
• Hawksbill
• Loggerhead

There is also an abundance of California sea lions and many species of mobula rays, including mantas.

Mako, Whale, Blue, Hammerheads and many other species of sharks also call this beautiful place home.

It is important to realize that we are a conservation driven business! We will never participate in anything where the animals are being mistreated in any way. Our priorities are the safety of our guests, the well being of the animals we are privileged to observe, as well as the ecosystem where they live! We will leave every place better than we found it!

This trip is truly a safari by nature, every day is different and we never know what we are going to see! It is without question an experience you will not forget.

These trips are snorkeling only, so anyone that is comfortable in the water can join us!

Day 1 – Arrival Day

Our “Baja – Ocean Safari trip” begins on our first day as we arrive at our rented home in the small village of La Ventana, Baja, Mexico. The home is surrounded by the  desert ecosystem that runs all the way up to the beautiful Sea of Cortez.

After everyone arrives (check-in is usually around 3pm) we go out to one of the many restaurants in the area. After dinner you’ll want to get some rest, as our week is jammed with at-sea excursions.

Days 2-6 – Sea Days

We meet our Captain and crew at the boat everyday at 8am.

Every single day is completely different!

We stay out at sea until 4pm everyday, enjoying the variety of mother earth’s magnificent species. There is lots of food, snacks and water provided every single day. If we have any energy left, we go out to dinner somewhere close by so we can get a good night’s rest in preparation for another spectacular day.

This area has a tremendous abundance and diversity of large aquatic wildlife, including many types of dolphin, like the largest dolphin, the orca. We may see many species of whales, a variety of sharks and turtle species.

Friendly sea lions can be found in many places, and there is a variety of manta and mobula rays that put on a spectacular show, both under the water as well as sometimes jumping high out of the water!

The magic in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, is truly amazing.

Day 7 – Departure Day

Say goodbye and depart La Ventana in the morning to catch our flights back home
